Entitled: The Reason

To u: we may miss the days back then, but as long as the same problem still exist, things will end the same.

To u: sorry for hurrying things that shudn't be hurried, bcuz in order for me to stay focused on the bigger things in the short run, i have to either get used to u or get used to go on without u.

Life is all about making decisions, and every time we make a bad choice, we often hope that time can turn back and we can choose the other options available so that things would turn out right, but we can never noe wad the outcome would be like in the other cases, so we shud just accept the outcome. For me, things mostly turn out right in the end, but the 'end' are usually long, and ironically, the things that took a wrong turn are the ones that matters to me the most. It is really a tough choice to make on whether to give up wad i have now and backtrack to attempt to make an alternate choice or to continue forward and explore the other possibilities in life that awaits me. Maybe i can only decide after i defeat the minion that keep ruining things for me - The big "A"...

Life is full of possibilities, and u only need to make them possible

Entitled: We Live To Please

Ok, this is going to be random but i feel that i have some things to talk about. One of my pals was just muttering about life again today, suddenly and out of nowhere. Although he tried to make it sound like a huge joke some of the things he said actually held meaning.

He muttered things about how we live to please others, how we always must live up to people's expectations, or have the want to be accepted into the "in" group. Then he also talked about how each of us are so very superficial. Yeah, i kind of agree with him. Even though sometimes we say we look more at the heart when sourcing for a partner, deep down inside each of us have looks placed as one of the more important factors. It's an undeniable fact.

Some quotes from pal,
"we are just like metal rails, placed in different environments, we experience different things. Some experience warmth, some cold, different places, different experiences."

"jc life has changed me, i don't know. I use to be able to laugh much, not worry about anything. I use to be able to go about my life without being afraid of offending someone."

Thinking about what he said, i sense a deep meaning in his words. Some other things he mentioned, like how sec sch was a desert and how jc was a winter places like Alaska. "in the sec sch years, it was like a desert, the days are longer than the nights. the times i felt warmth, joy, were long, and even though we say things to make fun, it is only laughed over and soon forgotten just like the night which is short in the desert. Jc is the opposite, everyday i go to school and it's like a day of trying not to offend anyway, try to please, be the one to give in, be the one doing the right thing."

How very true, like pal said, in sec sch i remembered how much laughter there was, how much joy there was in going to school. In jc, it's hard, as a's draw near, it's even harder. How often are we guilty of trying to look happy even when we're not? How much emotions have we pressed down just to make ourselves look happy? Honestly i can't remember a day ever since the first 3 months went by that i felt truly happy in jc. The love is simply hard to find.

I shall just end here...

Where is the love?

Entitled: Jokes

A boy is about to go on his first date, and is nervous about what to talk about. He asks his father for advice. The father replies: "My son, there are three subjects that always work. These are food, family, and philosophy."
The boy picks up his date and they go to a soda fountain. Ice cream sodas in front of them, they stare at each other for a long time, as the boy's nervousness builds. He remembers his father's advice, and chooses the first topic. He asks the girl: "Do you like potato pancakes?" She says "No," and the silence returns.
After a few more uncomfortable minutes, the boy thinks of his father's suggestion and turns to the second item on the list. He asks, "Do you have a brother?" Again, the girl says "No" and there is silence once again.
The boy then plays his last card. He thinks of his father's advice and asks the girl the following question: "If you had a brother, would he like potato pancakes?"

An engineer, an experimental physicist, a theoretical physicist, and a philosopher were hiking through the hills of Scotland. Cresting the top of one hill, they see, on top of the next, a black sheep. The engineer says: "What do you know, the sheep in Scotland are black." "Well, *some* of the sheep in Scotland are black," replies the experimental physicist. The theoretical physicist considers this for a moment and says "Well, at least one of the sheep in Scotland is black." "Well," the philosopher responds, "on one side, anyway."

A man does a good deed and as a reward his guardian angel appears and offers him the answer to any question he wishes to ask. But she says to take his time and she will return in two days. Well the man immediately realized he could become very rich: Which stock will go up the most over the next five years? Which horse will win the Kentucky Derby? Who will win the next Superbowl? etc. But then he thought, why waste this chance of a lifetime on money? After all, money is only a means to happiness. With the right question he can determine the secret of happiness itself! But the more he thought about it, the more he worried about tricks the angel might play: for example, suppose he asked, "What will make me the happiest man in the universe?" And she answered, "Go live on planet Rigel III" - perhaps true, but perfectly useless.

So our careful questioner decided to take this problem to the nearest philosophy department for assistance. He put the problem to the chair. The chair loved the challenge and as it happens, they were having a departmental meeting that evening anyway, so he told the man to return the next day. When the man returned, the chair beamed and informed him that the department put its best minds together and came up with the best possible question to ask the angel - and naturally he told the man the question to ask.

The next day the angel appeared and asked, "Well, do you have a question for me?" "Yes," the man replied with a great deal of confidence in his voice. "What are the members of the following ordered pair: the first member of the pair is the best possible question I could ask you, and the second member of the pair is the answer to that question?" The angel smiled and said, "You know, you couldn't have asked me a better question. In fact the first member of the pair IS the question you just asked. But that means the second member is the answer I'm giving you now."

Entitled: Same Sane

We were born into this world as an innocent and pure child with curious eyes, exploring the world, adapting to the environment. Then, there was nothing we know and things were simple; eating and sleeping and exploring. As we grow up, we gain bits and bits of our sanity, knowing how things works, finding a way to live a contended life. Things do not end here. Everyone has different ideas and as we mix with more and more ppl, their ideology mixes with us, forcing their way through our minds, crowding out some of our own ideas and principle. While we accept some of those thinkings, there are wrong concepts within them and we slowly get corrupted. We continue to explore the world, and we found out that the world has so much waiting for us, and because we can't decide what we want, we'll just have anything that comes to mind. Wanting this and wanting that, we keep changing directions in life and we eventually get lost. Trying to find ur way out of this, we then realise that we are blinded by the colours of the world, unable to get out. It is actually hard to be sane with so much things affecting our lives, and often we forget our root, our principles.

It is very true that 18 is the age of maturity, because on the yr i turned 18, i realised how cloudy the world has become. Things are more complex, ppl are more weird, and slowly I've become a part of everyone whom are a part of me. Its complicated shit..

To be or not to be... To stay sane we have to have great discipline and stay faithful to our values that truly belongs to us.

Entitled: Change.

was staring at the clouds earlier and wondering why they are changing all the time, as if my eyes were camera shutters and every blink was to indicate the successful capture of an image and the subjects were free to go away. why wouldn't they stop to take a break? not even to let me do a natural Rorschach test and allow me to identify the mythical figures roaming above us? is there any meaning or purpose behind the relentless transformations?

some people are like these clouds, constantly seeking to welcome new things into their lives, pursuing novelty for its own sake instead of having meaningful goals. even if they eventually achieve great things, it would be like someone driving aimlessly and arriving at somewhere they never knew they wanted to be but upon arriving found that it was the place they had always wanted to go to. unlikely, but possible.

at the other end of the spectrum, puddles of stagnant water. people who have fallen into a valley of comfort and are fearful of having to change for change would mean inevitably mean having to sacrifice, or at the least, having to adapt to a situation and bearing the risk that it may not be as good as how things are currently. but all the growth a puddle of stagnant water can achieve, would be to allow Aedes mosquitoes to breed.

hence, when we change and grow, and adopt new forms, we should do so for meaningful purposes. to avoid having regrets, to pursue the dreams that we now hide so preciously deep in our hearts, for fear of many things, of failure, of being different, of having to give up too much. when we change, we are becoming more like the ideal us that we all have in our minds.

let us welcome change like the clouds, but never lose sight of what we want to become.

The proper function of man is to live - not merely exist.

Entitled: Our Lives

edited*

I can't help but type something about life at this moment. My life is currently taken up by studies, but that's besides the point. What i'm referring to is the larger bigger picture out there in the world.

As i flip through the papers this whole week, i get bombarded by interesting and saddening news at the same time. Take for example the 23 but now 21 South Koreans who set out on a mission and instead got captured by the very people they were trying to help. Unfair isn't it? Being Chrisitan myself i can't help but feel strongly for the people there. My prayers are with them and i hope they would be released soon. Plus the papers now are streaker with the bridge collapse in Minnnesota. Anger arises as you read about the fact that there were warnings about the bridge raised more than 10 years ago, and then u also feel for the loved ones of those who are still missing. Many a times bad things happen when they could be prevented, if so, many of us wonder what's the true defination of "warning"? Something to warn for not to be acted upon? Certainly sounds like it nowadays..

On the brighter side of life there are scientific breaktroughs, economic booms and many other news that makes one feel happy. But how can one be happy when we are always desiring more? We get this but we demand that, we get that and we make another list of the things we want. The items just go on and on. It never stops can it? It's so human...

Sadly this world is filled with Yin & Yang. Well, i don't know what's all the hype about the world being in balance of good and evil, i just don't see the reason why there can't be all goodness in the world. It's just wishful thinking i guess. My care group leader at church once told me, "The only reason that i cannot be satisfied by anything in this world was that i was made for another." He got the quote from some famous author whom i can't remember the name. Well, i don't know about you but that spoke loudly to me indeed. Somethings i wish that things in life could go one way, but it's impossible.

The bottomline of this post is actually to cheer those who are feeling down up. You may be feeling down, you may have things looking bad for you, or dreaded exams coming up. But the key idea is to think on the bright side of life. I'm sure everyone knows this famous line, but have you actually tried exercising it? Think of your friends & family who love you for who you are, think of happy times that you can have with your friends. Even in the midst of studying, just having your friends there going down with you, doesn't the tought make you happy and thankful?

My own lame joke...

Velocity: You know why i'm special?
Displacement: Why?
Velocity: Because i can differentiate myself from you..

Yes there are indeed sadness to life, it's how we overcome it, then we can truly say we are conquerers.

Entitled: Credit

Recently Citibank issued a new credit card, Citi Clear Card. No minimum income needed, targeted at students and young adults. While those students above 18 may be happy to be able to get a credit card of their own, even if the credit limit is just $500, and the interest rate is so high they'd die if they defaulted on their payments, there have also been parents complaining about how that would encourage irresponsible spending and how students with no income would have to rely on their parents to foot the bill at the end of the day.

However, I think that the new credit card is nothing compared to the invisible and intangible one that all students already have. It allows us to borrow time so that we can do whatever we feel like doing while leaving whatever has to be done for some other time. Also, no minimum "time wealth" is needed and there's no maximum credit limit - you can borrow time whenever you want it, anywhere you need it, as much as you feel like having. The wonderful mechanism behind it is commonly known as procrastination.

While you borrow money from the bank when u use a credit card, you actually borrow time from yourself when you procrastinate. But you don't return time just like you pay your bills. You actually can't. You'd have to sacrifice something else, and according to the Law of Equivalent Exchange, in order to gain something, an equivalent price must be paid. And since time is such a scarce commodity, you got to sacrifice something really valuable. Usually, students procrastinate by putting off their school work so that they can indulge in temporary pleasures. In this case, the bill showing how much time they "borrowed" would come in the form of a result slip that shows how badly they have done and the price would be their grades compared to what they could have achieved had they been studying.

The absence of a maximum limit can be lethal as one can still procrastinate even on the eve of a major paper when there is literally no more time to spare, and since time would be REALLY VALUABLE then, it will also end up costing a lot. But the most dangerous thing is that you don't have to actively borrow time. You're constantly borrowing it, rate of one second per second, whenever you are not doing that which you should be doing.

The best thing you can do for yourself would be to cancel that card since you just know that you cannot afford to use it, at all. Maybe you might even want to reward yourself by getting that new credit card. After all, time is money, but money can't buy you time.

Procrastination is like masturbation. At first it feels good, but in the end you're only screwing yourself.
